I asked this Canadian couple if they ever heard of Petersborough, Ontario, which they had. Every summer my family and I took our annual vacation at a resort where we rented a cabin on the lake. I asked if they had ever heard of Scotsman Point and they dropped their mouths and said they vacationed there as well! It was a family owned and operated resort for generations, so we both knew
the owners Andrea and Norm. The couple proceeded to find their daughter in the store and we all continued to chat about this great vacation spot.
It was one of those special places where family vacations were all about good old-fashioned fun. We swam in the lake, played games in the sand, went fishing, water skiing, took boat rides, played shuffleboard, ping pong, jumped on a trampoline for hours at a time, listened to music on the radio while playing cards, and ran to the local on site store for our daily purchase of Smarties Candies;) When we weren't doing all of that each day we basically relaxed in the Adirondack chairs and gazed at the lake. I don't think kids today will ever experience such a truly wonderful family vacation with no smart phones, no televisions, no interruptions. It made me smile to think back at those enjoyable vacations, unconnected to the rest of the world, just in tune with our family.
Here are a few photos of Scotsman Point....it looks the same as it did some 40+ years ago.
